Clients Miles and Julia already knew Mike as he had built their current home in Paremata. When they found a challenging section with stunning views overlooking the Waikanae Estuary they asked Mike to take a look.
One particular challenge was placement of the garage. This would typically have been sited at the top of the section, however in this case it would have ruined the fantastic aspect. Mike brought in an engineer and together they devised a plan of using a right of way on Weggery Drive to access the garage, creating access on Queens Rd, and allowing the house to be built with the full benefit of its location. Mike and the engineer worked with the council to secure planning permission which, to the client’s delight was duly consented.
The result today is a beautiful home, designed with architect Lance Goodwin, incorporating the estuary and sea views, but also a stunning and challenging curved roof, designed to represent the natural curve of a boat, which is completely appropriate for the setting.
